Oak Parquet Blocks in Ripon
We are covering Ripon
for all clients of oak parquet flooring. We have huge stock waiting for dispatch - just pick the size of your block and select the grade you'd like it in and your delivery will be with you shortly.
Our tongue-and-grooved oak parquet flooring blocks are available in Prime, Natural and Rustic grades and come in 3 different sizes. These are 70x230mm, 70x280mm and 70x350mm, all with 20mm thickness of the block. Each pack contains an equal number of blocks of left and right-oriented fitting - ideal for the installation of the parquet flooring in a herringbone pattern. It is possible of course to lay the blocks in many other patterns as well.
The lower-positioned tongue-and-groove provides approx 12mm of sandable depth, meaning a longer life for your floors.
Parquet Finishing & Fitting Products
We went a bit further by offering parquet flooring together with all necessary finishing and fitting products - we do parquet floor adhesives, wood floor varnish from Bona and Junckers and floor oils. We do oak thresholds and edgings and mouldings, beading in oak and MDF, skirting boards and more.
Our Parquet Floor Grading System
- Rustic Grade Parquet Blocks - rich, vivid character allowing random size and form of knots and colour variation between the blocks;
- Natural Grade Parquet Blocks - more calm, natural feeling of the timber, allowing limited sized knots of up to 5 mm and almost no colour variation between the blocks;
- Prime Grade Parquet Blocks - clean oak timber without colour variation between the blocks; knots of 1 mm may appear randomly on 1 of 5 blocks.
Reclaimed or New Blocks?
We are often approached by clients looking for parquet floor laying service in Ripon
of reclaimed blocks or just asking us if that is a good idea at all. Sometimes they can be found cheaper, sometimes more expensive than new oak parquet flooring blocks, but in any case, it is not right to install reclaimed blocks, because this hides potential problems and normally, the cost of service will be much higher compared to fitting new blocks.
New blocks have come to market after timber has been carefully prepared and checked before production. Blocks are stored by suppliers normally in purpose-built warehouses, which protect the product from gaining higher moisture content. By bidding on eBay or taking the bags of blocks from your neighbour's garage you are risking to pay for a product that was improperly stored, which will cause issues after the fitting is finished.
On the other hand, when reclaimed blocks are laid together, they will not be in the same location as before and therefore some blocks may be higher than others throughout the floors. To resolve this, a serious sanding process will be carried out to smoothen the floors. Such service will require more consumables and therefore cost more.
The result, will not be the same as having new blocks laid and the final cost will go well over the cost of laying new blocks.

Basics of Laying Parquet Flooring
Most of our clients of parquet flooring blocks are experienced fitters hired as contractors for a project in Ripon
. But sometimes the management of the project is partly held by the property owner, and if the case is like this, here’s a guide to get you started with the basics:
Preparation
- Subfloor Inspection: Ensure the subfloor is clean, dry, and level. It should be free of any moisture or debris. A moisture barrier might be necessary for concrete subfloors.
- Acclimation: Allow your parquet flooring to acclimate in the room where it will be installed. This helps the wood adjust to the room’s temperature and humidity, minimising expansion or contraction after installation.
Tools and Materials
- Gather essential tools such as a tape measure, saw, hammer, nails or glue, spacers, and a mallet. You’ll also need an underlay or moisture barrier if required.
Layout
- Plan Your Pattern: Decide on the parquet pattern you want, such as herringbone, chevron, or basketweave. Planning helps ensure symmetry and alignment.
- Start Line: Use a chalk line to mark a starting line along the longest wall. This ensures that your first row of the parquet is straight and aligned.
Installation
- Begin Laying: Start laying the parquet from the starting line. Follow the appropriate installation method depending on the type of parquet (glue-down, nail-down, or floating).
- Fit and Secure: For glue-down parquet, apply adhesive to the subfloor and lay the planks, pressing them into place. For nail-down, secure the planks with nails or staples. For floating floors, interlock the planks as per the manufacturer's instructions.
- Use Spacers: Place spacers along the walls to maintain an expansion gap. This gap allows for the natural expansion and contraction of the wood.
Cutting
- Fit the Edges: Cut planks to fit along the edges and corners. Use a saw to make precise cuts, ensuring a snug fit.
Finishing Touches
- Trim and Moulding: Once the flooring is installed, add trim and moulding to cover the expansion gap and give the room a polished look.
- Clean Up: Remove any excess adhesive and clean the floor according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Allow the floor to settle before moving furniture back in.
Maintenance
- Regular Care: Maintain your parquet floor with regular cleaning and periodic refinishing to keep it looking its best. Avoid excessive moisture and use protective pads under furniture to prevent scratches.
