Oak Parquet Flooring in Newcastle upon Tyne

Parquet flooring blocks in Newcastle upon Tyne
Our sales of oak parquet flooring are available throughout Newcastle upon Tyne - all you have to do is choose your product size and grade and give us a call or complete your order online - as easy as this.

Our parquet flooring comes in various sizes. The smaller ones - 70 x 230 x 20 mm, 70 x 280 x 20 mm are suitable for smaller rooms, and 70 x 350 x 20 mm oak may look better on larger rooms. All our blocks come with tongue & groove fitting, which is located in a lower position, for better sandable depth and respectively longer life span.

Each pack of flooring contains the same number of left & right-oriented tongue & grooved blocks. This design is ideal for parquet flooring installation in a herringbone pattern. However, the blocks can be fitted in square and other patterns as well.

And when it comes to grading, there is a bit to offer for everyone - we do Prime, Natural and Rustic grades. Not sure, how timber grading works? Check our oak parquet flooring blocks product descriptions or speak to a member of staff.

Tips on Laying Parquet Flooring

Many clients of ours have experienced floor fitters in Newcastle upon Tyne . However, some try to manage their own projects and lack some experience. Here are some major points that should be addressed with parquet flooring installations.

  • Parquet blocks require a good subfloor level. If your subfloor is concrete and uneven, do not resolve it with the application of a self-levelling compound, it is a common mistake.
  • Always apply a liquid DPM (damp proof membrane) to concrete subfloors to prevent moisture issues.
  • Allow parquet blocks to acclimatise to the room temperature if installing in cold weather.
  • Use only manufacturer recommended adhesive for the subfloor type. Consult adhesive specs before purchasing.
  • Choose a high quality underlayment for sound insulation and added stability.
  • Carefully follow all manufacturer instructions for subfloor preparation and installation.
  • Tap blocks gently into place with a rubber mallet rather than forcing them.
  • Allow adhesive to fully cure before sanding or finishing parquet flooring. Follow all manufacturer curing times.
  • Use only manufacturer recommended finishes and apply the proper number of coats.
  • Clean parquet flooring regularly with a damp mop and approved cleaner. Avoid excessive moisture.

Our Blocks Grading System

Oak Parquet Flooring uses a standard UK grading system with the following definitions:

  • Rustic Grade Parquet Blocks - rich, vivid character allowing random size and form of knots and colour variation between the blocks;
  • Natural Grade Parquet Blocks - more calm, natural feeling of the timber, allowing limited sized knots of up to 5 mm and almost no colour variation between the blocks;
  • Prime Grade Parquet Blocks - clean oak timber without colour variation between the blocks; knots of 1 mm may appear randomly on 1 of 5 blocks.

Reclaimed or New Blocks?

We are often approached by clients looking for parquet floor laying service in Newcastle upon Tyne of reclaimed blocks or just asking us if that is a good idea at all. Sometimes they can be found cheaper, sometimes more expensive than new oak parquet flooring blocks, but in any case, it is not right to install reclaimed blocks, because this hides potential problems and normally, the cost of service will be much higher compared to fitting new blocks.

New blocks have come to market after timber has been carefully prepared and checked before production. Blocks are stored by suppliers normally in purpose-built warehouses, which protect the product from gaining higher moisture content. By bidding on eBay or taking the bags of blocks from your neighbour's garage you are risking to pay for a product that was improperly stored, which will cause issues after the fitting is finished.

On the other hand, when reclaimed blocks are laid together, they will not be in the same location as before and therefore some blocks may be higher than others throughout the floors. To resolve this, a serious sanding process will be carried out in order to smoothen the floors. Such service will require more consumables and therefore cost more.

The end result, will not be the same as having new blocks laid and the final cost will go well over the cost of laying new blocks.
